19 Apr Riccardo Braccialini elected president of Aimpes
After 14 years as Chair of AIMPES, Giorgio Cannara hands over the reins of the Italian Leather Manufacturers Association to Riccardo Braccialini, CEO of the Braccialini Group of Florence. The AIMPES annual meeting, held on Saturday April 18, 2015 in Riccione, appointed the new Board of Directors and portrayed the economic framework of the leather sector in 2014. Beside the election of Riccardo Braccialini as Chair, Vice Chairs were also appointed: Mara Visonà from Plinio Visonà and Roberto Briccola from Bric’s. The latter was also appointed as Chair of the MIPEL trade fair. After thanking Giorgio Cannara for the commitment demonstrated during his 14-year mandate, Riccardo Braccialini stated, “This is a moment of important challenges. AIMPES is a remarkably important national association both with regard to its turnover and employment, and it shall do more. The key words for our future are internationalization, training, access to finance, and combating unregulated activities and counterfeiting.” Also analyzed during the meeting was the 2014 economic picture of the leather goods sector. Following the trend of previous years, the sector is still driven by exports (+7.8%) while the national market is still on the negative side (-2.6%). Export sales exceeded a threshold of 6 billion euro, which further boosted the Italian trade balance. Generating this surplus and ranking first on the world scale with 3.9 billion euro is the feather in the cap of the sector: women’s handbags. Production revenues totaled to 6.5 billion euro, with a 10% leap forward compared to 2013, thanks to the boost triggered by exports.
